ASPEN, Colo. Brian ONeill Vikings Jersey . -- Reginas Mark McMorris is taking home a silver medal and a fractured rib from Saturdays slopestyle event at the Winter X Games. McMorris caught his snowboard on the lip of a rail and went sliding down the bar before landing hard on the snow on his third and final run of the day. He stayed on the ground for a few minutes before riding down the hill under his own power. "I whacked my side and I lost my breath," said McMorris, who was treated and released from the hospital, where X-rays showed he had a fractured rib but no other damage. "I lost my focus. Its too bad because I really wanted to do stuff here." McMorris, the gold-medal favourite heading into Sochi next month, said in a statement that despite the injury, he still has his sights set on Russia, where slopestyle will make its Olympic debut. "After thorough discussions with my team of doctors and a number of medical specialists, and my physical therapist and coaches, I will continue as planned with traveling to Europe (Sunday) and recovering for the Olympics," he said. "While Im sore, Im continuing on my road to Sochi." Maxence Parrot of Bromont, Que., reached the top of the podium for the second time in as many days at the X Games, edging McMorris for gold with 96.33 points. Parrot, who captured his first X Games gold medal Friday night in the big air competition, completed back-to-back triple corks for the first time in a slopestyle competition on his first run. "I tried the back-to-back triple corks at practice this morning but it wasnt working," Parrot said. "But I guess with the crowd and the great atmosphere here I was able to pull it off. "All the riders are doing great jumps now. I think its the riders who really step it up on the rails who are going to have success." McMorris finished with 95.66 points on the strength of his second run. Stale Sandbech of Norway placed third with 90.00. The best score of the three runs is the final score. Sebastien Toutant of LAssomption, Que., who will also represent Canada in Russia, placed seventh. In the womens slopestyle final, Sochi-bound Spencer OBrien of Courtenay, B.C., finished third with 94.00 points. It cost them dearly on Saturday night. Andrew Shaw and Marcus Kruger scored nine seconds apart early in the third period and Corey Crawford made 36 saves as the Chicago Blackhawks defeated Vancouver 2-1 to send the Canucks to their sixth loss in seven games. Saturdays barrage from the Blackhawks was eerily reminiscent of their Stanley Cup-clinching two goals in 17 seconds late in Game 6 of Junes final against the Boston Bruins. "It can turn around pretty quick if we get some chances, especially the opportunities we got," said Crawford, who outduelled fellow Canadian Olympic hopeful Roberto Luongo. "They were A-plus chances and usually we bury those and we did tonight." Shaw redirected a pass from Patrick Kane in front of Luongo to tie the score 1-1 at 4:40 of the final period, moments after Chicagos Patrick Sharp ripped a shot on a power play that went off the crossbar and both posts but stayed out. The Canucks then somehow gave up a 2-on-1 seconds after the ensuing faceoff, with Kruger firing a shot that went right through Luongo to give Chicago (16-4-4) its second straight victory. "We got a greasy goal, a lucky one there to get us going, and then a big response the following shift. It was a big comeback," said Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville, whose team has scored a league-high 87 goals this season. "We havent had many games like this. Tight, tight games going into the third period so its nice to find a way." One night after his team exploded for a 6-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets to snap a five-game losing streak that included just six Vancouver goals, Canucks head coach John Tortorella lamented the two lapses in concentration. "I think we beat ourselves there, and teams like Chicago will capitalize on that," he said. "We kill a penalty, we get our guy on the ice and we throw the puck away -- ends up in our net. A faceoff (play) we run and how we forecheck off a faceoff every time, we decide to go off the map with it and we give up an odd-man rush -- its in our net. "Thats a big part of the game." Johnny Oduya ripped a shot wide from the slot early in the period before Luongo stopped a Shaw deflection and made a pad save on Brandon Saad. Vancouvers No. 1-ranked penalty killing then fought off Chicagos first power-play opportunity of the night, with the Blackhawks best chance coming when Jonathan Toews fired a shot wide from the slot. Burrows, who has not scored in any of his 14 games this season, then had a chance on a wraparound but couldnt find the range to beat Crawford. "The most frustrating part is that you feel youre letting your teammates down," Burrows said of his slump. "Theyre counting on you to score some goals and youre not getting the job done."
